he saying goes that you cannot judge a book by its cover, but we believe that the latest project carried out by the Catalan designer and typographer, Alex Trochut for the Penguin Books publishing house, could disprove this, at least for any design lover. Science fiction classics designed by Alex Trochut 1 The legendary English publisher called on the science fiction author Neil Gaiman and the Catalan designer to make the introduction and covers for a new series of 6 classic
science fiction books belonging to a collection T-Shirt Design entitled "Penguin Galaxy" . The result is a deluxe hardcover edition whose cover was printed in hot stamping that highlights Alex Trochut's fine typographic creations. The designer himself comments that he solved this project thanks to a strictly typographical approach that reflects the content of each literary work without losing sight of the fact that all the covers had to present a certain graphic unit that would identify them within the same series of books. Sci-fi classics designed by Alex Trochut 3 Sci-fi
classics designed by Alex Trochut 4 Each design is based on the main themes of the novels or the worlds they present within them. For example, Arthur C. Clarke's classic “2001: A Space Odyssey” features alien-looking typeface with missing sections that create a puzzle for readers to decode. In the case of “Once and Future King” (a recreation of the King Arthur legend) by TH Blanco, the graphic reflects a medieval style and a sword on its reverse; “Neuromancer” cyberhacking tale is inspired by glitch design.
